Stanley Stables is a Harness Racing operation based at Burrumbeet, just 10 minutes outside of Ballarat. Michael Stanley is an A-grade licensed trainer and an A-grade licensed driver with 22 years’ experience under his belt - thanks to stints working for and alongside names like Gavin Lang, Alan Tubbs, John Caldow and David Murphy.
Stanley Stables have won 472 races (and counting) with more than $5m in stakes earned for its loyal owners. The barn has also won close to 100 Group 2 and Group 3 events with countless bonuses earned for its bevy of young horses for which the stable is renowned for.
The farm has been in operation since 2014 utilising a 1400m all-weather training track, a swimming dam, 30 sheltered boxes, eight-day yards plus the vast expanses of Lake Burrumbeet where the racing team regularly heads for physical recovery and amazing mental stimulus for the horses.
The farm began with eight boxes but has been expanded to 30 with an outside yard as well as eight large day paddocks.
Michael’s wife Gen is a licensed thoroughbred trainer with a handful of current racehorses in pre-training or currently training and racing. You can see updates on the gallopers on the ‘SS Thoroughbreds’ page.
Gen is hands on with the standardbred team with the ability to drive them in track work, as well as expertise in horse health, feeds, and her passion for delving into sports science and providing the racing team with more than just regular training programs.
The stable does not function smoothly without Gen’s magic touch.
Thanks to their expansive property, Michael and the team are able to prepare their horses on their private 1400m all-weather training track as well as the use of a swimming dam and Lake Burrumbeet.
Each horse receives individual planning and preparation as well as a planned racing route to ensure the horses and their owners have the utmost chance of achieving success on the racetrack.
DRAIN THE SWAMP (Somebeachsomewhere x Vicky Murphy)
Had a nice spell and looks an improved horse. Has already proven himself as a quality horse who will always be competitive at metropolitan level and perhaps some country cups.
SOHO DOW JONES (American Ideal x Soho New York)
Won nicely fresh up (which is not usually his go) suggesting he is in for a handy preparation. A really quality young horse.
LET IT LINGA (Captain Treacherous x Delightful Lana)
Working up well, will resume soon. A handy filly capable of winning her fair share for connections.
SOHO ALMASI (Mach Three x Fususi)
A Group 1 two-year-old winning speed demon who has endured some issues since but looks like she's over those and has been back racing. She will need to build her fitness base before we see her very best.
MAORI MUSCLE (Muscle Hill x Maori Sunshine)
Just needs to break his maiden then things may fall into place nicely for this talented young trotting gelding.
We have high hopes, but he's just struggled to knock over that first win.
RACKEMUP TIGER-PIE (Rock N Roll Heaven x Victoria Street)
Back on deck and winning races after a long struggle with injury.
Won a Hamilton Cup and Tasmania Cup heat and is performing well on an extended Tasmanian trip.
SOHO SERAPHINE (Betting Line x Angel Bromac)
A somewhat surprise victor in the Allied Express 2YO Classic. She's a really nice filly racing for Rob Watson, one of the sport's most prominent and committed owners.
SOHO LUMINE (Sweet Lou x Soho Madeleine)
Was awesome on debut and solid 2nd up. Will continue to improve and we expect she will be a filly right up with some of the better types in her era.
LEDECKY (Art Major x Glitterazzi)
A real talent who went down in fast time on debut. Will be winning plenty of races as she progresses. A smart daughter of Art Major.

Genevieve Browne (Stanley) is a licensed thoroughbred trainer with three career winners. Her maiden winner was in 2010 with a horse named Gold Royal.
Gen has had just 100 starters after taking considerable time away from training with the birth of Gen and Mick’s daughters.
Currently, Gen trains a few gallopers and is always keen to add to the stable with new or experienced owners looking to win their next race.
Like Mick, Gen prides herself on authenticity and communication with her owners.
